SUPERSEDED

A short history of some music, 1999-2009

In which I will attempt to write about my favorite albums of the past decade.

So you we won't forget.

“Baby One More Time” // 1999 MTV Video Music Awards.

Seriously. People were excited by this.

“Satisfaction”/”Oops I Did It Again” // 2000 MTV Video Music Awards

My favorite part have would be the blatant use of an anonymous backup singer’s live vocals to boost Britney’s completely non-existent ones.

“I’m a Slave 4 U” // 2001 MTV Video Music Awards

This really does sort of nail what the VMAs are about: the recreation of a music video, live onstage. Which, of course, means unabashed lip synching (like we cared at this point) and ridiculous choreography. And that snake.

“Like A Virgin”/”Hollywood”/”Work It” (with Madonna, Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott) // 2003 MTV Video Music Awards

“Ya gotta get a gimmick”: Best cutaway to a reaction shot from the Queer Eye crew. Isn’t it great how Xtina kind of, well, schools Britney a bit? Yes.

“Gimme More” // 2007 MTV Video Music Awards

Oh, the unsteady wobble. It’s still just as heartbreaking.
